Flacq Post RCA School

Jacqui and Richard Anderson were pleased to make our first visit to Flacq Post RCA School in October 2022 when we met the headteacher, Mrs. Lulette Eustasie, and her teaching staff. Our Foundation agreed to fund a comprehensive upgrade of the school’s ICT (computer) classroom and, in this regard, we were pleased to be led by the school’s ICT teacher in terms of their specific needs. As a result of our discussions several new computers and keyboards were purchased, together with a new projector and two air-conditioning units. The project was completed in May 2023, and everyone at the school is pleased with the new facility, not least the ICT etacher and pupils.

For the nine young children who joined Flacq Post RCA School in Grade 1 in January 2024 our Foundation purchased everything they needed to ensure the commencement of their educational ‘journey’ was as positive as possible. Each child was provided with a complete school uniform, and a school bag containing a notebook, pencils, eraser, ruler, etc., and we have given the school our commitment to support these nine pupils all the way through to Grade 6, when they will depart Flacq Post RCA School (with excellent grades!) to continue their education at high school.

The parents of these young pupils were also given a pack containing all the materials provided to their child, and were requested to give them their full support with their education.

We were pleased to be informed by the school’s headteacher that, for the 2025 Grade 1 intake, only one family required assistance with their child’s uniform and materials cost, and our Foundation was happy to purchase the necessary uniform so that this pupil could begin his school life fully equipped, and as an equal with his peers.

As Flacq Post RCA School is located in an area experiencing a variety of challenging social issues, some of the pupils are not properly equipped to engage fully in class lessons. With this knowledge, our Foundation has provided the school with funds to create a stock of school supplies (notebooks, whiteboard slates, pencils, erasers, rulers, etc.) which will be allocated on a needs-must basis to those pupils requiring specific additional support.

Our Foundation has collaborated closely with the headteacher and educators at Flacq Post RCA School for some years to provide a range of educational aids which enhance the teaching-learning experience; and our support also encompasses those pupils who require additional teaching support as part of the wider ESP (Extra Support Programme) introduced to primary schools in recent years.

Our Foundation has always been a firm believer in the benefits of ‘holistic learning experiences’ outside of the actual school environment. It was in this spirit that we funded two school outings during June 2024, one for the younger pupils from Grades 1-3, and the second for those pupils from Grades 4-6. Through discussion with the school’s headteacher and her educators, it was agreed to take Grades 1-3 pupils to ‘Odysseo Ocenarium’ to explore and learn about the oceans and sea-life, and Grades 4-6 pupils were taken to ‘Laventure Sucre’ where they gained insight to the history of Mauritius as it pertained to the all-important sugar cane industry.

Grades 1-6 Work Books for 2025 Syllabus

When we met with Headteacher, Sherley Devalet, and her educators in October 2024, they mentioned the difficulties they were having in providing the school’s pupils with proper work books covering the year’s syllabus; and they resorted to taking photocopies of the relevant pages of the few work books they had, to distribute among the pupils. Also, the cost of taking photocopies was having an adverse impact on the school’s limited funds. Our Foundation therefore agreed to fund the cost of purchasing new work books for the 2025 syllabus, for every pupil across Grades 1-6, and we were pleased to see the full set of this important educational material when we visited the school in early-February 2025.
